Arthritis involves inflammation of the joints. The common types of arthritis are Osteoarthritis (which is the most common), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout, and Fibromyalgia.

With Yoga, these aspects of a person's physique and life can be greatly enhanced. Yoga Poses can help strengthen your joints which is crucial in preventing and dealing with arthritis. It makes your joints function normally, thus reducing the risk of stiffness. With its virtue of balance, Yoga practice helps regulate the levels of uric acid in the body. Obesity may also be avoided through the practice.

More importantly, Yoga can lead to an overall healthier lifestyle that can enhance your resistance not only from arthritis but to other sicknesses as well.

These programs consist of gentle therapeutic yoga exercises that will help lubricate and strengthen client bodies and minds.  Breath is incorporated to enable release of toxins and decrease stress. 

Having had experience with arthritis and whiplash for many years caused by injuries incurred by a near-fatal car accident, the lead yoga teacher is personally aware of the fatigue, pain, lack of mobility and emotional distress these conditions cause, have caused and will cause in many people around us.

Our semi-private/private yoga classes have been  customized to alleviate the common complaints regarding arthritis and other debilitating conditions.  Our goal is to work with people from where they are now so that each individual can live a happier and fuller life while receiving the privacy they need and the empathy and understanding they seek.

Yoga For Whiplash

Whiplash is an injury to the cervical spine, which is caused by a jerking motion of the head and neck. When the head is thrown backward or forward, whiplash can occur. You can get whiplash in many other ways besides just car
accidents. Playing sports, horseplay, awkward falls or even a sudden sneeze can result in whiplash. Whiplash can certainly be painful.

Most commonly whiplash injuries are caused when a car is hit from behind. The neck is flexed and extended without head support, and these tears the muscle and ligament fibres which contract to try and protect the head.

This therapeutic yoga workshop proposes gentle mobilisation (joint freeing series) for pain relief and for restoring range of motion and relaxation techniques, such as deep abdominal breathing, to help reduce pain. These yoga sessions will also enable your upper back, shoulder, and neck muscles to relax more thereby helping you gain
back some flexibility for better movement without pain.

Chair yoga

Chair yoga, is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available, that is practiced sitting in a chair, or standing
using a chair for support. The poses, or Asanas, are often adaptations of Hatha yoga poses.

Complicated maneuvers
and complex movements are not present in a chair yoga class. Within this type of yoga class, you can cover standing, seated, and prone postures. Most of these classes use the chair only, due to the difficulty of getting
down or up off the floor.

Chair Yoga classes are often seen in senior centers, people with assisted living lifestyles, nursing homes, adult day care centers, and physical rehabilitation units. Clients can learn many kinds of yoga postures, breathing
techniques, meditation, and ways of relaxation, with the aid of a chair.

Chair yoga has helped people with the symptoms of many health issues including: hypertension (high blood pressure), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, vertigo (medical), multiple sclerosis, carpal tunnel
syndrome, clinical depression, and chronic pain.
